Guidelines for Employing Lay Ministry Workers

Our guidelines are designed to provide potential and current employers based within the Synod with a simplistic overview of what they need to consider when employing lay people.

Lay Ministry Workers are generally employed to perform pastoral or missional tasks under the oversight of a Ministry Leader.

Lay Ministry Workers are not ordained religious practitioners.

Guidelines for Remunerating Lay Ministry Workers

Lay Ministry Workers are not covered by an Award or Industrial Agreement.

The terms and conditions of employment for award-free employees are found in common law and prevailing employment and industrial legislation and are normally detailed in a contract of employment known as a letter of offer.

Our guidelines provide a framework to ensure that Lay Ministry Workers within Church organisations are remunerated in an equitable manner.
