Seeds of Growth starts 1 July
General Secretary Rev Jane Fry has thanked congregations for their generous contributions to Living is Giving as the financial year draws to a close.
Seeds of Growth contribution replaces Living is Giving on 1 July 2018. This is a new, compulsory contribution to the Synod from every part of the church. It assists the church to grow and prosper, enabling us to continue Christ’s work throughout the world.
“Thank you to everyone who is working hard to help ensure this transition to a new way of funding for the Synod’s activities goes as smoothly as possible and is equitable whereby everyone gives and benefits for the greater good of the church,” Rev. Fry said.
“We are committed to living out God’s love through; growing healthy churches, supporting vital ministries, transformative community engagement and directing our limited resources to where they are most needed.
“Vital ministry means creating a culture of safety for all children and families. This means always improving our governance frameworks through education and training. We also committed to equipping disciples for missional leadership and ministry.
“Thanks to our congregations, advocacy work is made possible. The Uniting Church Synod Social Justice Forum is leading our communities, advocating for many issues ranging from drug reform and affordable housing to helping refugees and asylum seekers,” she said.
A commitment to good stewardship
“Good stewardship is everyone’s responsibility,” Rev Fry said.
“As followers of Christ we are reminded that all things, including life itself, are a gift from God. We need to be responsible stewards of all the gifts that God has given and recognise the needs of God’s Church here on earth, both within our Congregations and in the wider community.”
If your church would like further theological reflection on the nature of stewardship and how it assists the whole church, a resource kit for congregations on Seeds of Growth is available on the Synod website.
