Annual Wage Review Decision

ON 1 June 2018 the Fair Work Commission handed down its annual wage review decision.

The decision applies to all employees covered by modern awards, enterprise awards, as well as award free employees.

Summary of Decision

Minimum wages in modern awards will be increased by 3.5% from the first full pay period commencing on or after 1 July 2018.

This increase can be absorbed into existing over award payments, as per the absorption clause in the applicable modern award.

New wage rates applying from 1 July 2018 will be issued by the Fair Work Commission in due course.

The 3.5% increase will also apply to the national minimum wage, increasing it by $24.30 to $719.20 per week, or $18.93 per hour.

This means that no employee (award or award free) in Australia can be paid less than $18.93 per hour unless the relevant award provides otherwise.
