Resources for First Day of Advent to Pray for Bushfires (1 December)

On 1 December I encourage congregations to take a moment to pause, reflect and pray for families and communities affected by the recent devastating and widespread bushfires.

The first day of Advent the season leading up to Christmas, and the first day of summer, traditionally the peak of bushfire season is a special time for all of us to acknowledge the efforts of emergency services, local authorities, volunteers and community members who have played a vital role in fighting the fires and providing relief to local townships.

These bushfires have devastated many communities and our emergency services are working tirelessly and sacrificially to save homes. We want to support them in prayer but to back that up with critically needed money, supplies and support for people who have lost so much.

This day of prayer is an opportunity to reflect, to support those in need and to prepare for a potentially dire fire season ahead of us.

I encourage all Congregations to continue prayers for affected communities and emergency services throughout Advent.

If congregations would like to donate to the Moderator's Bushfire Appeal, with all funds directly assisting our families and friends affected by the fires, please visit the website.
