Church condemns attacks on Armenia
The Uniting Church in Australia, Synod of NSW and the ACT, notes the recent attacks, commencing on 13th September 2022, on Armenia by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
It is with a growing sense of dismay and anger that our Church realises the lack of public awareness of the issue as, once again, Armenia is assaulted. This recent attack is a continuation of the efforts in 2021, as Azerbaijani forces occupied the Republic of Artsakh.
These ongoing assaults, in which many people have been killed, many more wounded, and entire communities are suffering, are an undoubted reflection of the hostility with which the Armenian nation is frequently confronted by the countries which surround it geographically.
Any attack on another sovereign nation is unacceptable. We oppose, unequivocally, any act which threatens the lives, community and property of any sovereign nation.
As such, the Synod of NSW and the ACT of the Uniting Church in Australia opposes the actions of Azerbaijani Government in its assault on Armenia.
