The Uniting Church Historical Society
Our task is to promote the study of the Uniting Church’s history.
The Society organizes occasional public lectures on themes of church history and publishes a highly regarded historical journal. We award a prize to a student of the United Theological College (UTC) for the best oral history project. The Society strongly supports the Archives of the Synod of NSW/ACT and members of the Society do vital work as volunteers in the Synod Archives.
The Rev. Simon Hansford, Moderator of the Synod of New South Wales and the ACT, is the Society’s Patron.
In 2018, Dr Malcolm Prentis, MA, PhD, DipTertiaryEd, FRHistS is the Society’s President.
Any person with an interest in church history is invited to join us. The annual membership fee is $38 ($32 for pensioners and students). Corporate membership fees (e.g. for congregations or libraries) are $44 (domestic) and $48 (overseas). Members will receive the historical journal, Church Heritage and The Recorder, the newsletter of the Society. Membership and research enquiries may be addressed to the Archives and Research Centre at the Centre for Ministry, North Parramatta, on 02 8838 8974.
The Office is open on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The society publishes a historical journal, Church Heritage twice annually, in March and September.
Church Heritage exists to publish articles and review books with particular reference to Congregational, Methodist, Presbyterian and Uniting traditions in Australia and the South Pacific. Dr Malcolm Prentis is the Editor and can be contacted at email@example.com
If your congregation is planning to document and celebrate an anniversary celebration and/or if you want to publish a history about your congregation and require assistance, consider publishing with us. Additional copies of the issue featuring your history can be printed at a very low cost. Contact the editor of Church Heritage if you are interested.
