29 September — 3 October, The Great Hall, Knox Grammar School, Wahroonga
In the Uniting Church, we proclaim that we are a people of the Word and a people of words. We are, in fact, a “spoken people”.
We are astonished by the profound breadth and depth of a God who speaks creation into being and places humanity at its heart;
- of God’s Word, Jesus Christ, in whom the whole creation finds new life;
- of God’s Spirit, who whispers and sings hope and wonder into our lives at every breath.
We are not only spoken; we are called to speak, to offer good news in word and action. Our Uniting Church speaks of worship, witness and service, which inform and shape each other – and our lives, as Jesus’ disciples.
We are called, as a community of God’s people, to give voice to the story which shapes us, and into which our own lives are woven. The service we offer and the worship we celebrate are shaped by our witness, and give form to how we speak of the hope we have.
At Synod this year, we will remind ourselves of the story in which we locate ourselves; we will celebrate ways in which we can articulate this story to those around us. We will hear from people across our church, as they tell our story, not as a theme to galvanise the church, but an affirmation of who we are called to be.
We will give voice to the hope within us – that our lives are woven into the story of God, spoken in Jesus Christ.
